The West Coast "American Cinema Editors Presents" event will be a screening of the 1993 drama The Joy Luck Club followed by a conversation with editor Maysie Hoy, ACE, at Los Angeles institution Vidiots.
In San Francisco, a group of aging Chinese women (Kiều Chinh, Tsai Chin, France Nuyen, Lisa Lu) meet regularly to trade familial stories while playing Mahjong. In a series of sixteen vignettes that span generations and continents, this adaptation of Amy Tan’s bestselling novel explores cultural conflict and the often-turbulent relationships between four first-generation Chinese-American women (Ming-Na Wen, Tamlyn Tomita, Lauren Tom, Rosalind Chao) and their mothers.

The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" screening in New York is Robert Altman’s 1993 comedy/drama Short Cuts. Inspired by nine short stories and a poem by renowned author Raymond Carver, with a screenplay by Altman and Frank Barhydt, Short Cuts interweaves the stories of twenty-two characters as they struggle to find solace and meaning in contemporary Los Angeles. The stunning ensemble cast features Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Robert Downey, Jr., Jennifer Jason Leigh, Buck Henry, Lyle Lovett, Lori Singer, Frances McDormand, Lily Tomlin, Matthew Modine, Annie Ross and Tom Waits. Following the screening there will be a Q&A with editor Suzy Elmiger, ACE, moderated by Joseph Krings, ACE.
On Sunday, September 22, film editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis, ACE is the Guest of Honor during the NCE Annual International Masterclass in co-operation with the Netherlands Film Festival. The entire masterclass will be in the English language.

Arguably one of the best TV shows in recent years, Reservation Dogs is about four Native American Teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma. Editors Varun Viswanath, ACE and Patrick Tuck, (both nominated for an Emmy Award) will join us to talk about their collaberation and process on this most wonderful show. Sven Pape, (AKA This Guy Edits) will moderate.
Also very excited to have veteran Hollywood Film editor Dan Lebental ACE return to Lacpug after several years. Dan has edited over 37 films, including Iron Man 1 and 2, ELF and the recent post-pandemic films include Beverly Hills Cop - Axel Foley, Bad Boys Ride or Die, Dungeons & Dragons and Mortal Kombat. Yes, there will be time for Q&A.

The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" screening in New York will be The Town. The Town is a crime thriller which landed on The National Board of Review's list of 10 best films in 2010. It stars Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Chris Cooper and Pete Postlethwaite, who received a posthumous BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. The plot follows a Boston bank robber who begins to develop romantic feelings for a victim of one of his previous robberies, while he and his crew set out to get one final score by robbing Fenway Park.
Following the screening there will be a Q&A with editor Dylan Tichenor, ACE.
