• Blackmagic Design: ‘DaVinci Resolve Collaborative Workflow’

    Blackmagic Design will be hosting a special 'DaVinci Resolve Collaborative Workflow' event on Wednesday 29th November @ FORA Soho, 33 Broadwick Street, LONDON, W1F 0DQ. This event will showcase the latest release of DaVinci Resolve 18.6, which includes the Blackmagic Camera App, Blackmagic Cloud Video Collaboration, and the iOS Remote Grading and Remote Monitoring apps. It's also a golden opportunity for you and your team to become familiar with the most cutting-edge collaborative workflow currently available, covering every aspect from editing, colour grading, audio mixing, motion graphics and visual effects. The DaVinci Resolve team will also be available to address any general questions you might have around the software.

    To complement the workflow customers will also be able to get hands-on with the technology, as the room will be set up as a mini post facility complete with Blackmagic CloudStore, DaVinci Resolve Advanced panel, Fairlight audio console and Cintel G3 HDR+ film scanner.

NB - It's worth noting that after the 4 pm session, ACE members will be invited to a nearby pub for an informal drink courtesy of Blackmagic Design. If you register for an earlier session, you are most welcome to join us for drinks at the pub after 6pm (venue TBC).

    The Women In Media Holiday Toast fundraiser has become synonymous with inspiration, community, and kicking off the festive season. This year, we will be at the glamorous Hotel Sofitel in Beverly Hills. We will be recognizing truly legendary women who are making a mark in the entertainment industry. These distinguished filmmakers are paving the way for greater female participation behind the scenes.

    This event is open to men, women, and all genders. Friends, members, and luminaries of the entertainment world are encouraged to join us in honoring these exemplary women, as their colleagues share stories of their professionalism, artistry, and craft. We will be celebrating these phenomenal women as they share their wisdom, leadership, and experience on a special panel. Get there early to enjoy the champagne bar and prance the red carpet. In addition, VIP Premiere ticket holders will receive a commemorative Holiday Toast 2023 champagne glass to raise to our honorees and take home.

    Once again American Cinema Editors is making tickets for the Cinema Eye Honors available to our members at no cost. The 17th annual edition of America’s premier documentary awards ceremony is taking place Friday, January 12, at the New York Academy of Medicine in East Harlem. Doors open at 6:30pm.

    Outstanding films and television programs, many of them edited by our members, will be honored at a ceremony filled with film clips and a chance to see our peers and collaborators honored.

    The evening begins with a pre-reception hosted by HBO Max and an after party hosted by National Geographic Documentary Films.

    The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" is a screening of the 2023 documentary Stamped from the Beginning. Using innovative animation and expert voices, Oscar-winning director Roger Ross Williams brings Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's New York Times bestseller to the screen. Published in 2016, Dr. Kendi's National Book Award winner chronicles the story of anti-Black racist ideas and their staggering power over the course of American history. Stamped from the Beginning has been shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, one of 15 films selected from hundreds of eligible films. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's editors John S. Fisher and Francesca Sharper, moderated by David Velasco.

  • Canadian Cinema Editors EditCon 2024

    The Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) is pleased to present EDITCON 2024, the seventh annual conference on the art of picture editing, and will take place between February 9th to 11th, 2024. The conference will host virtual events as well as in person events in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton. We are also excited to have our first EditCon exclusive podcast! This will be a special release on January 1st and will be available to everyone!

    A wave of new innovation is around the corner, and big questions around the industry landscape are emerging. But technology is nothing without the storytellers behind it. As the industry changes, Editors find themselves at an intersection of technological change. How can we navigate this new and exciting future? What are the ways Editors are adjusting to ensure they are telling the best stories possible? EditCon 2024 will give the floor to some of the most talented voices in the profession, as they address some of the challenges that they face.

    The weekend will feature panel discussions on editing comedy, theatrical films, and unscripted programming, with some of Canada’s top editors sharing a wealth of knowledge and experience.

    In addition to fascinating panels and a podcast, there will be a series of virtual breakout rooms as well as some exciting programming for our in person events. We will also have some amazing products to raffle off!

  • American Cinema Editors Presents … A Screening of the Romantic Comedy Working Girl Followed by a Discussion with Bobbie & Molly O’Steen

    In honor of Valentine's Day the next "American Cinema Editors presents ..." is a screening of the 1988 film Working Girl, edited by legendary editor Sam O'Steen. Our guests for a post screening discussion will be Bobbie O’Steen, an author and film historian who often speaks about her late husband Sam’s work and legacy and their daughter Molly O’Steen. Together they will discuss the editing of Working Girl and tell behind-the-scenes stories of its making. Bobbie has written several books including Cut to the Chase where she spoke candidly with Sam about his work on some of the most influential movies in motion picture history.     Working Girl is a romantic comedy directed by Mike Nichols, written by Kevin Wade, and starring Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, and Melanie Griffith. Its plot follows an ambitious secretary from Staten Island who takes over her new boss’ role while the boss is laid up with a broken leg. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards and won four Golden Globes, including Best Picture, Comedy or Musical; Best Actress, Comedy or Musical, for Griffith; and Best Supporting Actress for Weaver.
