Join us for a Q&A with writer David Scarpa and editor Sam Restivo as they discuss their work on the 2024 historical epic film Gladiator II. Triumphantly returning to the arena after nearly 25 years away, Ridley Scott has crafted another epic spectacle with Gladiator II. Working with a screenplay from David Scarpa that successfully fuses history with big cinematic dazzle, Scott’s latest ups the ante and insanity from the first while retaining its heart and soul. An exquisitely-paced extravaganza (largely thanks to master editors Claire Simpson and Sam Restivo) featuring standout performances from a Paul Mescal led powerhouse ensemble featuring Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen and scenery-devouring acting from Denzel Washington, Gladiator II delivers the goods and then some, making the quarter-century wait more than worth it.

Join us for a Q&A with director Tim Fehlbaum and editor Hansjörg Weissbrich, BFS, as they discuss their work on the 2024 historical drama September 5. On September 5, 1972, the calm at the Munich Olympics was broken when terrorists murdered Israeli athletes and took more hostage. Tim Fehlbaum’s tense, taut film, September 5, takes a documentary-like approach to exploring the ABC Sports division’s coverage of the unfolding tragedy. Provocatively and intelligently investigating journalistic ethics and the limits of what can - and should - be shown on live television, September 5 is propelled by Hansjörg Weissbrich’s sharp editing and an ensemble of excellent performances. September 5 couldn’t be more timely and wisely stays away from coming to neat conclusions, making for a stimulating and frequently unnerving viewing experience.

Join us for a Q&A with cinematographer Jarin Blaschke; editor Louise Ford, ACE; production designer Craig Lathrop, as they discuss their work on the film Nosferatu. A total descent into darkness, Robert Eggers’ reimagining of Nosferatu proves yet again why he is one of the most distinctive and exciting filmmakers working today. For this version, Eggers insists that evil must be looked at straight on, that it’s a part of everyday life, which makes this a provocative, potent, unnerving viewing experience. And, the film is a technical marvel that looks and feels like a demented fairytale, largely thanks to cinematographer Jarin Blashke, production designer Craig Lathrop, and editor Louise Ford, all of whom have worked on every one of Eggers' four features. This Nosferatu is one for the ages: at once reverential to F.W. Murnau’s original and also daring, modern, and a vision all its own.

Join us for a Q&A with cinematographer Lol Crawley, BSC and production designer Judy Becker as they discuss their work on the film The Brutalist. While epic in running time and scope, The Brutalist is an intimate film about the cost of creating great art. Many films have been made about this topic, but few have had this one’s attention to detail and realism, largely from Judy Becker’s immersive production design, Lol Crawley’s lush, inventive cinematography and Dávid Jancsó's editing. And then there’s Adrien Brody who leads this film with grace and humanity, finding endless complexity in his troubled architect, László Tóth. The Brutalist is a film that will be studied and remembered for years to come.
