Join us for a Q&A with editor Richard Francis-Bruce, ACE, as he discusses his work on the 1994 prison drama The Shawshank Redemption. Frank Darabont’s directorial debut, The Shawshank Redemption, is itself the ultimate redemption story. Dismissed upon release, The Shawshank Redemption quickly developed a devoted following on TV and home video, earned seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture, and is now hailed as one of the greatest films ever made. All of the deserved praise heaped upon this film belies the fact that, at its heart, it is a small, down-to-earth prison drama about a wrongfully-imprisoned man and his friendship with a fellow inmate. As cut by veteran editor Richard Francis-Bruce, ACE, this methodically-paced drama crescendos to a tremendously powerful climax that makes an already-affecting film ascend to true cinematic transcendence. American Cinema Editors Presents A Screening of Short Cuts and Q&A with Editor Suzy Elmiger, ACE (NY Event)

The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" screening in New York is Robert Altman’s 1993 comedy/drama Short Cuts. Inspired by nine short stories and a poem by renowned author Raymond Carver, with a screenplay by Altman and Frank Barhydt, Short Cuts interweaves the stories of twenty-two characters as they struggle to find solace and meaning in contemporary Los Angeles. The stunning ensemble cast features Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Robert Downey, Jr., Jennifer Jason Leigh, Buck Henry, Lyle Lovett, Lori Singer, Frances McDormand, Lily Tomlin, Matthew Modine, Annie Ross and Tom Waits. Following the screening there will be a Q&A with editor Suzy Elmiger, ACE, moderated by Joseph Krings, ACE.

We are back from summer vacation. Join us Wednesday, September 25 for the next lacpug Meet.

Arguably one of the best TV shows in recent years, Reservation Dogs is about four Native American Teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma. Editors Varun Viswanath, ACE and Patrick Tuck, (both nominated for an Emmy Award) will join us to talk about their collaberation and process on this most wonderful show. Sven Pape, (AKA This Guy Edits) will moderate.

Also very excited to have veteran Hollywood Film editor Dan Lebental ACE return to Lacpug after several years. Dan has edited over 37 films, including Iron Man 1 and 2, ELF and the recent post-pandemic films include Beverly Hills Cop - Axel Foley, Bad Boys Ride or Die, Dungeons & Dragons and Mortal Kombat.
