Memoir of a Snail Q&A with Writer/Producer/Director Adam Elliot (Zoom Event)

Zoom/Online see event description for link details, CA, United States

Picturehouse 441 and ACE are proud to be partnering on a series of live virtual Q&As as part of our mutual efforts to promote film literacy.
Join us for a Q&A with writer/producer/director Adam Elliot as he discusses his stop-motion animated tragicomedy Memoir of a Snail. Adam Elliot has not made a feature film since 2009’s beguiling Mary and Max. The 15-year wait turned out to be well-worth it, though, as Memoir of a Snail is as personal and moving as its predecessor. Edited by Bill Murphy and brought to life by an outstanding voice cast led by Sarah Snook, this tale of the odd, dysfunctional, and darkly funny life of a woman named Grace is full of endless surprises and a deep well of emotion. Only the second R-rated film ever nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, Memoir of a Snail is an ultimately hopeful, life-affirming story of a woman coming into her own against all odds from one of the most distinctive voices working in animation today.

This event will be a Live Zoom Webinar on Monday, February 17 at 8PM ET/5PM PT with two encore livestreams to follow on Vimeo.

Zoom/Online see event description for link details, CA, United States

Picturehouse 441 and ACE are proud to be partnering on a series of live virtual Q&As as part of our mutual efforts to promote film literacy.
Join us for a Q&A with writer/editor/director Gints Zilbalodis & co-writer/producer Matīss Kaža as they discuss their animated fantasy adventure Flow. An animated film in which animals actually act like animals and flood waters fill a wondrous, almost otherworldly landscape, Flow charts a new course for feature animation with its innovative style and exceptional command of storytelling. Through action, a gorgeous score, and an immersive soundscape, filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis and writer/producer Matīss Kaža create a haunting, gorgeously-realized human-less world where animal friendship and camaraderie are the only way for any creature to see another day. Nominated for both the Best International Feature and Best Animated Feature Oscars and an ACE Eddie Award, Flow announces the arrival of exciting new talents in the world of animation whose emotionally-driven, visually dazzling approach to the art form promises to continue to move it forward.

Requiem for a Dream Q&A with Editor Jay Rabinowitz, ACE (Zoom Event)

Zoom/Online see event description for link details, CA, United States

Picturehouse 441 and ACE are proud to be partnering on a series of live virtual Q&As as part of our mutual efforts to promote film literacy.
Join us for a Q&A with editor Jay Rabinowitz, ACE, as he discusses his work on 2000 psychological drama Requiem for a Dream. Darren Aronofsky’s second film, Requiem for a Dream, is a hellish work of drama about a group of individuals whose lives are torn apart by their drug addictions. While drug addiction films are a dime a dozen, what distinguishes Requiem from all of the other films of its kind is its complete commitment to assaulting all of the senses in an effort to bring the audience as close as possible to its characters’ broken minds and lives. Grounded by Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Connolly’s heartbreaking performances, Requiem is also one of the best-edited films of all time, providing a showcase for Jay Rabinowitz’s experimental, shocking work that provides the film with much of its haunting power.

Foxy Brown Q&A with Writer and Director Jack Hill (Zoom Event)

Zoom/Online see event description for link details, CA, United States

Picturehouse 441 and ACE are proud to be partnering on a series of live virtual Q&As as part of our mutual efforts to promote film literacy.
Join us for a Q&A with writer/director Jack Hill, as he discusses his 1974 action film Foxy Brown. After teaming up for the acclaimed Coffy, filmmaker Jack Hill and star Pam Grier reunited for the wildly entertaining Foxy Brown. Proving once again that Pam Grier is a force of nature onscreen, this film about a woman who goes out for revenge against the drug dealers who killed her boyfriend is a subversive feminist statement under the guise of a standard blaxploitation film. A major influence on countless subsequent films including Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown (which also starred Pam Grier), this wonderful original holds up beautifully as a glorious ode to female power.
