Join us for a Q&A with editor Maurissa Horwitz and screenwriter Meg LeFauve, as they discuss their work on the 2024 coming-of-age Inside Out 2. The first Inside Outwas one of Pixar’s most exhilarating triumphs: a complex, profoundly moving, and wickedly funny exploration of a young girl’s emotions. And its sequel, Inside Out 2, is another insightful, surprising work that follows the original five emotions and some new ones as their girl, Riley, navigates being a teenager and the anxiety that comes with it. Paced at a breakneck speed by debuting director Kelsey Mann and editor Maurissa Horwitz and filled with rich vocal performances from its exceptional voice cast, Inside Out 2 is the rare film that has captured both the hearts and especially minds of critics and audiences and shown that the geniuses at Pixar are still operating at the top of their game.

American Cinema Editors Presents A Screening of Short Cuts and Q&A with Editor Suzy Elmiger, ACE (NY Event)

The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" screening in New York is Robert Altman’s 1993 comedy/drama Short Cuts. Inspired by nine short stories and a poem by renowned author Raymond Carver, with a screenplay by Altman and Frank Barhydt, Short Cuts interweaves the stories of twenty-two characters as they struggle to find solace and meaning in contemporary Los Angeles. The stunning ensemble cast features Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Robert Downey, Jr., Jennifer Jason Leigh, Buck Henry, Lyle Lovett, Lori Singer, Frances McDormand, Lily Tomlin, Matthew Modine, Annie Ross and Tom Waits. Following the screening there will be a Q&A with editor Suzy Elmiger, ACE, moderated by Joseph Krings, ACE.

Arguably one of the best TV shows in recent years, Reservation Dogs is about four Native American Teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma. Editors Varun Viswanath, ACE and Patrick Tuck, (both nominated for an Emmy Award) will join us to talk about their collaberation and process on this most wonderful show. Join us for a Q&A with director Matt Reeves as he discusses his 2014 science fiction film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. After the critical and commercial success of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, filmmaker Matt Reeves took over directing duties for Dawn, making an even smarter, more emotional, and visually dazzling sequel that further tracks the rift between humans and a group of intelligent apes. Anchored by Andy Serkis’ typically expressive motion-capture work as ape leader Caesar, and edited by William Hoy, ACE, and Stan Salfas, ACE, this film both deepens and expands what came before it. What’s most thrilling about Dawn though is the passion with which Reeves infuses it. The rare filmmaker who can merge blockbuster cinema with filmic art, Reeves further breathed life into this once-dormant franchise and proved that it had a glorious, chest-thumping path forward.

The Town Q&A with Editor Dylan Tichenor, ACE (NY Event)

The next "American Cinema Editors Presents" screening in New York will be The Town. The Town is a crime thriller which landed on The National Board of Review's list of 10 best films in 2010. It stars Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Chris Cooper and Pete Postlethwaite, who received a posthumous BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. The plot follows a Boston bank robber who begins to develop romantic feelings for a victim of one of his previous robberies, while he and his crew set out to get one final score by robbing Fenway Park.

Following the screening there will be a Q&A with editor Dylan Tichenor, ACE.
