Editors are the ultimate puzzle-solvers of filmmaking, turning hours of footage into polished and compelling stories we see on screen. But what really happens in the edit suite between cuts? From navigating the industry to honing their craft, this brilliant panel of established editors will share practical tips, insightful advice, and firsthand accounts of the challenges, successes, and experiences that have shaped their careers. Panelists, all presenting films in this year’s program, include Christina Sun Kim (New Wave), Kristina Motwani (1-800-On-Her-Own), Nesa Azimi (DRIVER), Siyi Chen (Made In Ethiopia). Moderated by M. Watanabe Milmore, ACE (Satisfied).

    ACE is Thrilled to Announce These Inaugural Events in Partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival! These are free and open to the public, but you must have a ticket. Drawing on samples of his work across the last 30 plus years, Academy Award nominated editor Christopher Tellefsen (Metropolitan, Kids, Flirting with Disaster, Capote, Moneyball, The Menu and many more), will shed light on the often overlooked practice of film editing and how the work that happens in the edit room transforms the films we ultimately see. Moderated by Jamie Kirkpatrick, ACE, with a Q&A to follow.

    Join ACE at Tribeca Festival for our “Editing Across Storytelling Forms,” as seasoned editors from the worlds of fiction and non-fiction filmmaking with projects at the festival sit down with Sabine Hoffman, ACE, for a discussion of their careers to date. Featuring Andrew Morreale, ACE; Mollie Goldstein, ACE; and Stephanie Filo Jones, ACE. The panel takes place Monday, June 9, at 2pm, at ATT Story Lounge 50 Varick Street, 5th floor, and will last an hour.

    The event is free & open to the public. Advance tickets are currently sold out but there will be rush tickets available in person starting one hour before.

  • Tribeca Festival: ACE Editing Masterclass: Barry Alexander Brown, ACE (NY Event)

    Join ACE at Tribeca for a master class with acclaimed editor Barry Alexander Brown, ACE on Sunday June 15 at 3pm as part of the Storytelling Summit, Spring Studios, 50 Varick Street, 5th floor. Barry Alexander Brown, ACE, has edited most of Spike Lee’s films, from School Daze and Do the Right Thing to Malcolm X and Inside Man to Spike’s latest, Highest 2 Lowest, opening this summer. Barry also cut Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay! and Alex Keshisian’s Madonna: Truth or Dare documentary. As a director, his films include the upcoming Wish to Live as well as Son of the South and the landmark Vietnam era documentary The War at Home.
    Barry will talk about the process from beginning to end on a movie – from watching dailies together and understanding the director's vision of the movie, to the editor's cut, working through the weeks of the director's cut and then finalizing the films with the input of the producers and the studios.

    Tickets are available as part of the Storytelling Summit, which brings the filmmaking and creative community together, giving independent storytellers the access and connections they need to propel their projects and careers forward – from exposure to industry veterans to thoughtfully curated sessions.
