In Memoriam: Ralph Schoenfeld, A.C.E. 1925-2011
Last spring, ACE lost one of its dearest members. My husband, Ralph Schoenfeld, A.C.E., passed away on May 27, 2011, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center due to complications from a brain tumor. He was 86 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 6, 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and attended UCLA. Ralph and I, Valerie Verone Goldstone, were married on September 26, 1956, in a lovely backyard ceremony at my parents’ home in Studio City, California. He and I, too, made Studio City our home.
For more than 30 years, Ralph worked in the entertainment industry as an editor. His body of work includes The Beverly Hillbillies, Lassie, The Six Million Dollar Man,and Hart to Hart,to name a few. Ralph was an active and proud member of American Cinema Editors. Preceded in his death by his father and mother, he leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife of 55 years, Valerie; his son, Gregg S. Schoenfeld; Stacy, Bruce and Sean S. Salley—his daughter, son-in-law and cherished granddaughter; his brother, Bert Schoenfeld, his wife, Jeri, and his sister-in-law, Leslie Avery.
Ralph loved his family, friends and golf. He was known by all for his positive out-look, passion for his career as an editor and traveling with me all over the world.
