NEW ACE Committee Suggestions
`
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
`
We want to gather those interested in sharing their love of teaching the art and craft of film editing. Some of the suggested goals of the committee could be the following:
`
•Propose that this be a think tank for those that teach and want to share teaching plans/techniques/discussion topics.
`
•Create a directory of all colleges and universities that have filmmaking programs. Reach out to those schools to share ideas on bridging the gap between the academic world and the working industry of editing. Invite academic film teachers to a working cutting room. Seek and support diversity when building the school directory and contacts.
`
•The committee could reach out to ACE members to create a roster of guest speakers for those interested in speaking at college and university classrooms.
`
•Catalog all books about film editing and create a working syllabus of recommended books to be used for classroom or individual study.
`
VISITING ACE AMBASSADOR GROUP
`
Lets build a group of ACE members to explore and plan ways that ACE can reach out and educate the public on what editing is and why it’s so important.
`
•Gather small groups of editors who can travel to various locations such as elementary or high schools, specialty organizations or businesses to demonstrate some basic editing techniques and can explain workflow/working relationships.
`
•Invite small specialty groups to a demonstration of editing in a working cutting room and discuss the importance and complexity of editing.
`
MEDIA OUTREACH COMMITTEE
`
This committee could work with our ACE PR Representative to help foster awareness and the importance of the craft of editing by building relationships with the media.
`
•Invite critics to a demonstration of editing dailies and discuss the complexity of film editing as well as the contribution film and television editors make.
`
•This committee can be responders to coverage that film editors receive in the press. A positive acknowledgment can be sent if a critic praises someone’s editing. Or a tactful correction could be sent if misinformation is released. If a critic, for example, refers to a director editing their film we could get in touch to clarify how the film editor/director relationship works.
`
•Choose critics each year to be invited to the Eddie Award Ceremonies.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE
`
Looking for ACE members interested in creating social activities for more bonding and networking activities among our peers.
`
•These events could be one-offs or regular events like a monthly golf outing, for example. But with our membership at over 1000 lets create more opportunities for us to spend time together.
`
•Social events could also introduce editors of differing genres to each other or honor editors of a certain genre like documentary or animation.
`
•Could also create events to introduce/honor assistants.
OUTREACH COMMITTEE
`
Lets create a group to build a support system to help our members in need.
`
•Lets offer help to those that suffer from illness or are elderly and are in need of any kind of support like needing a ride to the grocery store or a doctor. Or maybe someone just wants to go to lunch with a friend or colleague.
`
•Lets be aware of our retired members living in the Motion Picture Home or other assisted living environments and plan regular visits, lunches, screenings to keep them connected to our ACE community.
`
•We could offer our support to ACE family members too.
CREDIT COMMITTEE
`
Lets gather ACE members who want to pursue the right to uphold a prominent placement for our editing credit.
`
•This may involve petitions to have our credit alongside the other department heads in front main titles or as part of main on ends.
“
•Another area of concern is studios not allowing the use of ACE after our name.
INTER-GUILD RELATIONS COMMITTEE
`
Lets create a group to build relations with other filmmaking artists.
`
One goal would be to seek cooperation of our fellow cinematographers, production designers, sound organizations, etc to create joint events and/or to support and teach each other about our specific crafts.
`
NEW YORK COMMITTEE
`
Register below to be on the list for the New York committee. A few in-person and/or conference call meetings will be held each year. This new committee will plan and execute social activities for NY members and help create opportunities/activities and promote participation to build a strong NY branch of ACE.
